Puglia is in the heel of Italy right in the South. Puglia was once both the garden for Italy as well as the holiday destination of choice for the discerning Italian. It still is!
First time visitors are struck by the vivid red earth which contrasts with the bright green vegetation. Puglia may be located in the Southern extreme of Italy but still boasts lush vegetation.
It is certainly a long time since King Pyrrhus of Epirus gained a victory over the Romans in 279 BC at the battle of Asculum in Apulia but at such a cost that the term “Pyrrhic victory” gained currency. That battleground lies within the extraordinarily beautiful Valle d’Itria which contains, amongst many other attractions, the unique trulli houses that are, perhaps, the trademark of the area. We have two trulli at the Masseria.
